What is DC – PD coverage?
At a glance: Direct Compensation – Property Damage (DC – PD) coverage provides compensation for you when your vehicle is damaged in an accident caused by someone else.
DC-PD also covers the loss of use of your vehicle as well as your belongings in the car. It is a mandatory component of your auto insurance in Ontario, and is included with all basic auto insurance policies.
When does direct compensation – property damage coverage apply?
There are certain conditions that must be met before Direct Compensation – Property Damage coverage comes into effect:
- The accident was not your fault or not entirely your fault
- One or more other vehicles were involved in the accident
- At least one of the other vehicles is insured
- The accident occurred in Ontario
If all of these conditions are not met, you may still have some coverage under the collision section of your insurance policy if you chose to have it. Also if an uninsured or unidentified driver caused the collision, you may be eligible for some reimbursement thanks to Uninsured Automobile Coverage, which is another mandatory section of Ontario auto insurance.
