Frequently asked questions about vintage motorcycle insurance:
Can I take my vintage ride out for a spin on the weekends?
CVMG members taking advantage of Mitchโs group insurance program get up to 4,000 km of pleasure use as part of their vintage motorcycle insurance so you can definitely take your bike out for weekend rides.
How often do I need to get my vintage bike appraised?
When you first get vintage motorcycle insurance, most insurers will want to see an appraisal thatโs no older than 12 months. After that, if you stay with the same insurer, they may ask for a new appraisal every three to five years. If you do work on the bike and believe the value has increased, you can submit a new appraisal and increase your coverage at any time, even mid-policy.
If I have more than one vintage bike, can I save more?
Some insurance companies offer a discount of up to 10% for having more than one motorcycle insured with them. To qualify, you must be the owner of both bikes, but it doesnโt matter if both are vintage or classic. Bundling a modern motorcycle will also give you the opportunity to receive the multi-motorcycle discount.
Can I get vintage motorcycle insurance as a 25-year-old?
Yes. While insurers that offer vintage motorcycle policies usually have quite strict rules, we have options for most riders and bikes โ as long as youโve got your M2 and have completed a ministry-approved rider training course within the last three years. To qualify for the maximum discounts, the bike has to be at least 25 years old, and the rider has to be at least 30, with a minimum of six yearsโ claims-free riding experience.
Can I get vintage bike insurance with at-fault accidents on my record?
If you have one or more at-fault accidents, you are unlikely to qualify for a vintage bike discount. One minor ticket is OK, but no more than that. But donโt worry, we have lots of insurance options and will work to find you coverage thatโs right for you.
